Refrigerator....done!

We were so caught up in the construction process, worrying about timeline, rain, delays, rates and payments that I was unable to look beyond closing. But this weekend, with encouragement from some good friends, we went appliance shopping! Just to get an idea of what's out there, what we'd like style wise and all that. After looking in just 3 stores and we ended up purchasing a refrigerator! That doesn't happen a lot of times with us..... Usually we look in-store, online and then look and then look around some more, before we read reviews, argue, debate to get on the same page regarding a budget or style or model.

Its a Samsung 30 Cu.Ft. side-by-side, with water and ice dispenser. We bought it from Sears, Samsung was running a price cut on this model and Sears had a family and friends 15% off sale on top of that. So I think we got a good deal . The sales guy was pretty cool and they offered price match for next 30 days if we find a better deal during the long weekend or from another store.
Here are a couple of pics I found online.

Of course it was quiet unsettling that we made such a big purchase in a day, so we went home and did some research and read few reviews online, and I'm not second guessing it yet, which is again very very rare!

Next on the list - washer and dryer! We'll see how that goes....
Let me know if you find any good deals! :-)

  1. We are waiting until Labor Day weekend to purchase the Washer & Dryer. We also need to wait to pay off the fridge we bought over Memorial Day weekend.
Too much money all at once.

    1. Tell me about it!
We actually liked a washer dryer bundle but it was too much money to spend at once. Also, they'll check our credit again during closing so didn't wanna make huge purchases and max out the credit card!

  2. I don't know much about GE washer/dryers... but whenever I see fellow bloggers who are looking for appliances, I always like to offer up my "friends and family" discount to GE. If you're interested, I can refer you to the online store where you can look at the discounted prices for their line of appliances (and I believe there is actually a special rebate running right now on their newest washer/dryer sets).

If you're interested, feel free to comment on my blog with your email address (and delete it afterwards so others can't see it!) and I can provide you with the link to log-in.

  3. I love SAMSUNG products. It looks like a great fridge. I need to contain my shopping bug. I haven't bought appliances since we have a fairly new washer and dryer from out last house and we went with a fridge RH offered, but I have been buying tons of small items(under $500)

    1. That's great actually, that you don't have to worry about appliances, things you'll need immediately. That pretty much $3500 instant money out of pocket we are talking about! I don't think I'll have anything left for smaller items for a long long time! Sigh!

  4. I love my LG top loading HE washer and dryer (it's the one that looks like R2D2!) My cloths get so clean, they are quiet and have lots of settings and a steam cycle on the dryer. I got a good price too at HD and used gift cards for my fuel perks! I had front loading LG's before and they smelled and never got my cloths clean, my top loader gets my whites ultra clean and washes my king size comforter with no problem! And I'm notorious for adding cloths after the fact and with the top loaders it's no problem!

here is a link to the washer we have

    2. No problem! I always thought you had to go with front loaders if you want efficiency, but it doesn't use that much more water, it's still a lot less than the old school top loaders and because it doesn't have the agitator, it doesn't ruin your clothes! I will never get another front loader after seeing these babies in action!

And, I don't know what I would have done without all my blogger friends! Everyone I see that is starting to build in my neighborhood I encourage them to blog about it or at least follow the blogs out here! Lots of great info!

  5. Nice fridge! I bet it will look great in the new kitchen. Let me know where you land on the washer/dryer - I'm trying to get a new set (if Hubby is feeling generous - may not happen after we pay for the blinds we will need though!)

    1. Oh yeah! Can't forget about the blinds!! Our neighbor got a great deal on blinds from a local company and she promised to give us the contact info....I think she paid like $2000 for her huge house including installation charges.

We held off on W/D for now as they'll pull our credit a week or so before closing. And we'll have to wait until labor day anyway...

  6. S&P you got me shopping for appliances too, so today I landed on my own kind of deal. I saw this whirlpool 26 cu ft stainless steel french door with ice and water dispenser refrigerator for $1000 which was half the original price. Apparently it was returned by another customer that's why they cut the price in half. It's exactly what I've been looking for. The lady told me come Sunday 8/18 there will be another 10% discount to it, so I decided to wait until Sunday hoping no one else gets it before then, so I can get it for 900 bucks of course I'll pay 100 bucks for a five year warranty, totally worth it. I'm still so excited about the savings, well considering it's still there on Sunday.

I like you fridge too!!I'm sure it has the blue lights right? That's what I love most about the Samsung refrigerators.

oooo that's a great deal! fingers crossed for ya! I'm now thinking if I'm over spending on the fridge...I'm debating the price, but hubby is set on it! Sigh!

Our fridge has got white LED lights.

  7. LOVE LOVE LOVE Samsung products. They are very popular are well built machines. We purchased the Samsung with APPS and I LOVE it! As any company, they keep coming out with a better design so the choices are endless. So nice to see you found one that suits you and your families needs.

    1. Thanks RickandNadase. I loved it too, but after shopping around for washer and dryer, I'm debating we should go for a cheaper fridge! But we love it so much already that it hurts! :-|
