No framing yet....

Last week our PM had said that they may start framing our house on Wednesday, so (as I was way too excited to wait) I drove down on Wednesday afternoon to check them out it action....but there was no action!! Found out from our PM that the crew was finishing up framing another house, and we were next in line. We heard back from our SR and PM today, they said that the framing won't start until Monday as the crew is still wrapping up on the other house and its raining. So no progress this week!! :-|

On a different subject, My husband and I had discussed running the wires for our home theater system ourselves when the framing was done. We know many people do that, we had talked about that in our interactive session too. So we asked our SR and PM to let us know when we can do that. Turns out, we cannot!! Our SR said that it was against their "Policy"....for liability reasons. I know other builders allow that, my sister and her husband did it themselves when their house was being built.
We are disappointed, because we really love our surround sound and we wanted to do it ourselves, save some $$$. Anyway, our PM jumped into the conversation and said that if we get the wiring done after closing, he would fix the drywall for us......hmmm we'll have to think about that, I guess!

  1. Well the good news is Monday will be a nice surprise to see all the wood ready to become a house. I think its a good idea to get the wiring done especially if their going to fix the drywall that's nice of him to offer that free of charge! Take your time and make your decision once framing starts.

  2. Out PM is doing some drywall repair too !! Some things just have to wait which is difficult sometimes! I appreciated the gesture so it's going on our ten month list

  3. I'm not sure what space you are working with but I did a non-standard request to have a PVC pipe run from the basement to the attic. It goes through our chase, so I can pull wire out at any floor along the way. They charged $700 for this...probably a lot more than it should have cost but I don't know what my wiring needs are going to be down the road. We are going with ADT and may figure out pretty quick, we need that pipe. I like their wireless solutions but some of the features have to be hard wired.

Once they start framing, hold on tight because it is going to go up so fast, if you blink, you will miss it. It is amazing how fast RH can frame a house by building all the walls off site. It takes them a while (3-4 hours) to build the floor system but then can put up all the external walls and most of the interior walls in 1-2 hours. I went out to the site every day they were framing and sat for an hour each evening and just stood in awww of these guys. Truly amazing.

    1. I had to read that $700 charge twice. That is insane. We are building in an overpriced community where all prices are jacked up. We requested the PVC pipe run, and they charged us $200 for it.. This request was done about a month ago, we break ground 5/22.. $700 is a crime. I hope we end up using it anyway..

    2. I know I was surprised at that $700 too! We have requested 2 PVC short pipe runs...one going from a power outlet by the fireplace to above the fireplace, a possibility of our TV and one in bonus room which is again a short pipe run and we were charged $250. That's the reason we decided to do the wiring for surround sound ourselves because they quoted us about $2000 dollars for it.
